On this occacion, we asked the Managing Director of the Diversity Charter in Germany, Franzi von Kempis, and our Diversity Officer Ferdinand Mirbach: When is diversity more than just a buzzword?
In May 2024, we, the Robert Bosch Stiftung, joined the Diversity Charter. This makes us part of the largest employer initiative to promote diversity in companies and institutions in Germany. Just like the 5,000 organizations that have signed the Diversity Charter, we also pursue the goal of a working environment that is free of prejudice and shows equal appreciation to all employees, regardless of age, ethnic origin and nationality, gender and gender identity, physical and mental abilities, religion and ideology, sexual orientation and social background.
Diversity is the buzzword of our time. Companies, authorities and associations use it as a figurehead. But what does it actually mean? How do we create real diversity? And where is discrimination still present or even increasing - we want to get to the bottom of these questions in this dossier.
Our diversity strategy has been the guiding principle of our work since 2023 - and relates not only to staff selection and collaboration within our institution, but also to cooperation with project partners and service providers. Last but not least, we support numerous projects that work towards social diversity and give a wide variety of groups more participation and a voice: as part of our topics of immigration society, democracy and inequality.
As we promote both - a culture of diversity in our organization, but also diversity in society - in the video talk with Franzi von Kempis from the Diversity Charter and Ferdinand Mirbach, our Diversity Officer, we shed light on both levels and ask: How do we achieve true diversity? What do we need to do to make diversity more than just lip service?
