Promoting alternatives to the detention of migrants, refugees asylum seekers contributes to more humane and human rights-centered migration governance. 

What are our goals?

Rights-based and community-centered alternatives to detention contribute to strengthening the access of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers to rights and services. By offering alternatives, this project contributes to reducing the use of detention as a practice in migration management. 

How does the project work?

IDC researches and identifies alternative practices to detention, builds the capacity of its member organizations to develop and implement national strategies and facilitates national and regional peer-learning between policymakers and practitioners, people affected by immigration detention, civil society and UN agencies to develop solutions.
