Cross-Foundation Trainee Program

Our cross-foundation trainee program is aimed at motivated and ambitious university graduates with either a bachelor’s or master’s degree who wish to gain practical insight into the field of foundation management. This trainee program is a product of partnerships with seven other foundations. Those who have just graduated and who have already gained their first professional experience can get their career off to a flying start at the Robert Bosch Stiftung.

Information about the Cross-Foundation Trainee Program

Together with seven other foundations, the Robert Bosch Stiftung is offering a cross-organizational trainee program for motivated and ambitious entry-level professionals who would like to get to know how foundations work and how they are managed. As part of the cross-foundation program, you will learn about where and how the Robert Bosch Stiftung works as well as two additional foundations. In so doing, you will be actively involved in the day-to-day operations of support programs and take part in shaping and further developing their strategic directions. Moreover, you will learn the ins and outs of important administrative departments within the foundations. The program is complemented by accompanying development and goal discussions as well as training and continuing education.

The trainee program was developed as a collaboration project between four partner and pool foundations. Just like the Robert Bosch Stiftung, all partner foundations offer the opportunity to apply directly as a trainee during the submission period. You cannot apply directly to the pool foundations; these are available merely as external stations.

If you apply for the program with us and are selected, you will spend the majority of your time in the trainee program with the Robert Bosch Stiftung.

Your first external stint will be spent at one of our partner foundations:

  • Joachim Herz Stiftung
  • The Körber Foundation
  • Stiftung Mercator

For your second external stint, you can also choose from among the pool foundations. This includes:

  • BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt
  • German Federal Environment Foundation
  • The Hertie Foundation
  • Klosterkammer Hannover

The cross-foundation trainee program is spread out over 24 months. During this time, you will make stops in multiple departments of the Robert Bosch Stiftung as well as at two additional foundations. Along the way, you will become familiar with the inner workings of the foundations as well as important administrative departments like finance and controlling, communication, and human resources.

The trainee program is based on phases. The phases you will go through are orientation, qualification, and professionalization. As you progress through the phases, you will take on noticeably more responsibility in the project work.

  • Thorough orientation phase at the Robert Bosch Stiftung and at our partner and pool foundations
  • Systematic development of your specialist and management expertise thanks to a wide range of assignments in projects and day-to-day work
  • Active support in expanding your skills by participation in training programs
  • Comprehensive expertise regarding the operations and methodology of multiple foundations
  • Opportunity to establish a cross-foundation network through practical phases in several large German foundations
  • Appropriate remuneration

Your initial contract will have a period of two years. Your workplace will vary depending on your current location. Your workplace during the phases at the Robert Bosch Stiftung will be Stuttgart.

  • A university degree (Diplom, Magister, or master’s degree) in the humanities, social sciences, or economics with above-average grades
  • Some professional experience
  • Proven placement abroad (min. six months) and extracurricular involvement
  • High level of social and intercultural competence, coupled with dedication and a desire to learn
  • Outstanding conceptual and analytical skills as well as an entrepreneurial outlook and leadership potential
  • A responsible nature, the ability to work independently, initiative, and team spirit
  • Outstanding German and English (written and spoken); other foreign languages are advantageous
