A major challenge for the German health care system is the wide range of diseases with a large proportion of chronic conditions. Compared to other countries, results only rank as average despite high financial expenditure. The shortage of skilled workers, the system’s fragmentation, and the hesitant introduction of digital applications appear to be ongoing issues. In view of the further challenges posed by globalization, new biotechnologies and climate change, state-of-the-art solutions are needed.
