Plenary Session 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. - Climate Action in the Restoration Decade

Positive tipping points can transform our future. One promising entry point for triggering them is ecosystem restoration, which combines restoring ecosystem functioning and development with climate mitigation and adaptation. Speakers will elaborate on the role of restoration in triggering positive tipping points and discuss the key challenges and opportunities they have experienced whilst implementing restoration processes at the regional and local level.

Curious about what GLF’s restoration practitioners are up to? Session: Climate Migration - Cities at the Forefront

How do cities ensure their residents are protected from climate displacement and included in the green transition? Members of the C40 Cities-Mayors Migration Council Task Force and their partners will share how they are taking bold steps to accelerate global responses to the climate crisis by putting people at the center of climate action and investing in city governments to deliver.

Session 1: How can we transform food and agriculture systems through locally-led climate-friendly and nature-positive solutions?

This session will explore how locally-led nature-positive solutions including agroecology can also help communities adapt to the reality of a changing climate, improve their food security and health, thereby contributing to resilience, food sovereignty, and economic empowerment.

Session 2: Governance for climate action in the food system: what is the role of NDCs and local dialogues?

This session will share insights from the GA’s NDC assessment with a focus on stakeholder engagement practices and highlight the voices of the many unheard peoples whose local knowledge is often overlooked in the search for new ways of producing, processing, and consuming food.

The Africa Climate Mobility Initiative (ACMI) is an unprecedented global partnership launched by the AU Commission, the United Nations, and the World Bank and joined by the academic, practitioner, policymaking, and philanthropic communities to generate political momentum, common policy agenda, and resources for harnessing the potential and addressing the challenges of climate-forced mobility in the African continent. ACMI will advance data-based comprehensive solutions to support people-centered adaptation to climate mobility; protect those on the move; and further the resilience of African communities confronting the climate crisis.
