Over a three-year pilot phase, eight border regions between Germany and its neighboring countries explored new approaches to cross-border citizen participation. Together, they worked towards the vision of a Europe without borders. This summary highlights the main barriers identified during the project—categorized as language, culture, space, as well as politics, administration, and law—and illustrates constructive ways to address these challenges (text in German).
