The Sahel region has experienced a significant increase of violence associated with terrorist armed groups, (organized) crime and intercommunal conflict. Violence spread from Mali and Niger into Burkina Faso, and increasingly towards the tri-border area of Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana and the coastal states at the Gulf of Guinea. This spill-over effect is feared to intensify as violence in the Sahel increases.
With our partners Conciliation Resources and Indigo Côte d’Ivoire, we seek to contribute to the strengthening of resilience against violence in the tri-border area. We want to gain a better understanding of the conflict dynamics and peacebuilding potential through an in-depth analysis and lay the foundations for initiatives that are locally designed, owned, and implemented.
