About the project

"Putting wings on learning!" This is the slogan of the German School Award (Der Deutsche Schulpreis), which was launched by the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Heidehof Stiftung in 2006. The public broadcasting network ARD and the German publishing group DIE ZEIT are the award’s cooperation partners. The award was launched to honor educational achievements and help make them usable to improve the quality of schools all over Germany. The competition is based on a comprehensive understanding of education that is reflected in six quality criteria: academic achievement, approach to diversity, quality of instruction, responsibility, school culture, and school development. Schools that apply for the German School Award need to be rated highly in all areas and outstanding in one of them. The main award ist endowed with 100,000 euros, with five other schools receiving 25,000 euros each.
