We view civil society as that part of a society in which people carry out activities for the common good beyond state institutions and the business sector. A democratic, social, and solidly united municipality can only prosper when its citizens take responsibility for themselves and others in their community.
Our civil society is built on the backs of those who work for a cause with conviction and passion, often break new ground, and come up with creative solutions to social challenges. Based on this belief, we pursue two goals when carrying out activities in Civil Society: strengthening civil society and solidarity.
We strengthen players in civil society in their organizational and personnel-related competencies and expand their access to resources. We support civic involvement, in particular, wherever it faces social and societal challenges and contributes to overcoming these challenges. We particularly support the development of approaches aimed at strengthening cohesion in a diverse society.
Germany has an active civil society, with some 23 million people involved in work for the public good. To do so, they require structures, resources and contact points on a local level. This is where our network program comes in.
