Why are we supporting this project?
The possibilities and limits of integrating refugees have become key policy issues in Germany and Europe. Current political debates and discussions among experts focus primarily on the social and economic dimension of integration (language, education, and employment). The spectrum of civil and political participation is notably less present.
What are our goals?
To counteract a marginalization of refugees at an early stage and account for civil and political participation, the Robert Bosch Stiftung is supporting the project led by the "International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance" (IDEA). International IDEA is engaged in a global research project on the possibilities and limits of political participation for refugees. . In the long term, the project aims to contribute to a greater collaboration between political institutions and the refugee/asylum-seeker community.
How does the project work?
The analysis of the case studies should provide recommendations on integrating refugees and asylum seekers into social and political life - both in their countries of origin and host countries. The results will be presented in Berlin, Brussels, Nairobi, and Tunis and discussed with experts on migration as well as political decision-makers.
