In brief

About the project

A basis for the continuing education of childcare staff on the topic of cultural diversity

One in three children in Germany has a migrant background. In childcare and daycare facilities, cultural diversity is therefore part of everyday life. "Fit for Diversity - Equal Opportunities in Daycare" provides the first strengths-based and practice-oriented curriculum for the cultural diversity training of daycare staff. The program aims at expanding people’s knowledge and skills in order to strengthen their ability to act within the pedagogical routines of childcare facilities.

The curriculum is directed at daycare staff and education experts active in qualification and training programs as well as advisory and support services for childcare providers. It thus contributes to establishing a uniform continuing training offering on matters of cultural diversity in the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg.

The curriculum was developed by Landesverband Kindertagespflege Baden-Württemberg e.V., the state’s association of daycare facilities, in cooperation with the Center of Childhood and Youth Research at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg. It builds on findings from the program "Chancen - gleich!" (Equal Opportunities - Now!) of the Robert Bosch Foundation, which helps staff in daycare centers make the best educational use of the resources and potentials of children and families from different cultures, languages, and backgrounds.
