Verstehen lehren – Developing Lessons with Learning by Intensive Understanding

Our program “Verstehen lehren – Developing Lessons with Learning by Intensive Understanding“ aims to make lasting improvements to instruction, focusing on learning through true understanding and on strengthening and broadening the respective skills in educators. To achieve this, teachers learn the concept cooperatively in school-based groups under the supervision of trained counselors (school partners).

At the core of this concept is the meaning of understanding. “Understanding“ is learning that occurs through the interaction of experiences and actions, conceiving ideas, grasping and critically reflecting the learning material (meta cognition).

The Robert Bosch Stiftung mainly supports the training of counselors in this concept, as well as the academic supervision and development of program activities by a concept group headed by Professor Dr. Peter Fauser from the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena.

The Robert Bosch Stiftung cooperates closely with the Ministry of Education of Thuringia, which is also committed to advancing instruction and “learning by understanding“ with its “development program for instruction and quality of learning“. The foundation and the ministry signed a cooperation agreement in the year 2005.
