Ökologisches Schullandheim Licherode, Alfeld:

Environmental coaching certificate for senior citizens
7,500 euros

The ecological Schullandheim Licherode, a nationally recognized center for practical environmental education, developed and tested a concept for training senior citizens to serve as environmental coaches. The aim is to give senior citizens more opportunities for lifelong learning, to help younger people access the knowledge and experience of the older generation, and to enable senior citizens to collaborate with full-time educators in environmental education facilities, day care centers, and schools.

The certification course comprises 60 lessons. It is aimed at retired people who have acquired special skills through their professions or hobbies and would like to pass those skills to children and young people. After completing the course, participants will receive an official certificate recognized by the state schools authority and teacher training authority. Over 25 senior citizens have been trained as environmental coaches so far
and will begin working in selected schools as part of a trial run. The training concept will then be transferred to other institutions and regions through a nationwide network program.
