The Dresdner Senior Citizens’ Academy of Arts and Sciences was founded in 1994/95 as a joint project by the universities and museums of Dresden, led by the University of Technology and Deutsches Hygiene-Museum. The academy involves about twenty partners and offers broad-based, in-depth educational programs.
Admission is open to all interested senior citizens. The educational concept is not limited to the acquisition of knowledge, but includes active participation in discussion groups, a writing workshop, and a theater group as well as artistic design courses. No special education or academic degree is required to participate in the academy's events. Over 1,000 people currently attend the academy.
