The formation of a unique university-level educational institution for senior citizens in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region is a response to growing demand for education and qualifications at university level among the elderly. The study concept consists of three modules: a) Senior Consultant: Experienced employees are trained to take on new tasks in their organization after the end of their working lives; b) Civic Involvement: A course which teaches competent management methods for volunteer work in various sectors of society; c) Studium Generale: A course of study involving intensive engagement with topics and methods in the social sciences and liberal arts.
The courses began at the end of 2005 and are divided into trimesters. They include some home learning elements and are networked with similar initiatives in other countries in Europe.
