Deutscher Turner-Bund, Frankfurt/Main:

Exercise and health promotion for the aged
3,000 euros

The Deutscher Turner-Bund, an organization with a long tradition and over five million members, is tackling the issue of old age.
A survey of its sports activities and membership structure revealed that over a third of its members are over 50 years old and that the activities of the sports and gymnastics associations are adequate for members up to the age of 70. For people over 70, however, the survey reported a deficit.
In response, the Deutscher Turner-Bund developed a concept of a 30-hour coaches' training course on "Exercise and Health Promotion for the Aged" and introduced the course to the provincial associations in a seminar for knowledge disseminators. Over 200 coaches have taken the course so far. A brochure for coaches was drafted and printed.
