The Czech Library

Leafing Through The Czech Soul

It is not easy for the writers of good literature in a small country to gain international recognition. We invite you to discover Czech literature beyond Kafka and Kundera. Every year, Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt (DVA) has published four volumes of poetry, plays, essays and philosophical writing, in which well-known experts and first-class translators lead readers on a literary discovery tour. The Presidents of the Czech Republic and Federal Republic of Germany are patrons of this ambitious project. In 2007, the Czech Library was “closed” with a total of 33 volumes. To mark the project’s end, all involved were invited to a reception with German Federal President Horst Köhler and an event at the Czech Embassy on August 24, 2007.
