Enabling the access of refugees to all social sectors and giving them the chance to become equal members of society is very important. Model projects show how diverse means of inclusion can be experienced, for example through guidance from volunteer mentors or new models for living together within communities.

In 2014, SchlaU-Schule in Munich was commended by the jury of the German School Award for helping young refugees to gain school qualifications. Almost all are successful in advancing to further vocational or academic education. The German School Award is being conferred by the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Heidehof Stiftung since 2006.

Our aim is to make refugees an active part of civil society. With the large number of refugees who arrived in 2015, an increase in organizations founded by them is expected. We want to support this process. Refugee Radio Awareness Network (RRN) is one such projects. Here, refugees are using the medium of radio to campaign for human rights and their participation in civil society. The "Conference of Migration and Media Awareness" which is organised by the network will take place in November 2017 in Hamburg.

In convening the Robert Bosch Expert Commission to Consider a Realignment of Refugee Policy in March 2015 under the chairmanship of Armin Laschet, the Robert Bosch Stiftung has brought together ten high-ranking representatives from the fields of politics, the economy and society to develop concrete, solution-oriented courses of action and reform proposals for German refugee policy within a year. In April 2016, the commission has presented its final report at the German federal press conference in Berlin.
