The International Initiative "Aktionsbündnis Anerkennung"

International youth service is effective: It offers young people a chance for intercultural exchange, fosters their appreciation for diversity, and empowers them to approach conflicts constructively and to actively participate in society. International meetings of young people have plenty of potential for learning, but there is not enough recognition for those young people who have truly developed personally during their stays in other countries.

The International initiative "Aktionsbündnis Anerkennung" advocates for the societal recognition of expertise acquired through international youth service. The initiative views itself as a platform for exchange and networking stakeholders from civil society, education, the federal government, and the states who make the potential of international youth service visible to the public through various campaigns and event formats.

The initiative is being carried out by International Youth Service of the Federal Republic of Germany (IJAB), is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), and supported by JUGEND für Europa.
Open Space in Berlin, March 1-2, 2016

In the Berlin Office of the Robert Bosch Stiftung, around 50 experts from the worlds of formal and informal education discussed how experiences with international mobility can gain recognition in society and in the public perception. The participants agreed, among other things, to promote the networking between curricular and extracurricular supporters, to increase lobbying efforts for recognition in the world of politics, and to develop joint strategic public relations work for the achievements of international youth service.

The goal of the initiative is to turn the ideas gathered at the kickoff event into concrete measures and to develop the topics beyond the event in the form of working groups.
