EU-Russia Strategy Project

The dialog between the EU and Russia on the European security architecture, but also on common security challenges, is indispensable.

The EU-Russia Strategy Project initiates such a constructive informal exchange between senior experts and policymakers. The continuous talks contribute to a mutual understanding of foreign policy positions, identify new policy areas for future cooperation, and deal with current challenges such as the implications of economic sanctions for EU-Russian relations, the peace talks in Eastern Ukraine, or the ongoing conflict in Syria. At the same time, the project strengthens the inner-European coordination of a joint policy towards Russia and encourages a more coherent and effective policy engagement in the region.

Meetings of the so called EU-Russia Strategy Group lie at the heart of the program. Thereby, approximately 25 Russian and EU experts and decision-makers from politics, administration, science and business discuss both current developments and more fundamental strategic questions. The Group’s recommendations are processed in the form of publications and shall support national political decision-making processes. Study trips to Russia complement these meetings. They enable a dialog between participants and local decision-makers and experts.

The EU-Russia Strategy Project is realized in Berlin, Warsaw and Moscow together with the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) and in cooperation with the German Foreign Office and the Polish Foreign Office.
