Anniversary Celebration

With around 200 guests and business partners, the Robert Bosch Stiftung celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 26, 2014. In line with the anniversary slogan, 50 Years Shaping the Future, the event focused on the history of the Foundation and its current projects. Winfried Kretschmann, Minister President of Baden-Württemberg, and Christof Bosch, Spokesman of the Bosch family and member of the Board of Trustees, talked about the importance of the Foundation in their speeches. Additional well-wishing celebrities included German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen, who offered their congratulations in video messages.

Wieland Backes and Dennis Wilms hosted the varied stage program, which focused on recipients of the Foundation’s support. For instance, Nobel laureate Herta Müller explained in an interview how a Border Crossers scholarship presented by the Robert Bosch Stiftung allowed her to write the award-winning novel The Hunger Angel. Chamisso Prize winners José F. A. Oliver, Yoko Tawada, and Ilija Trojanow staged a reading. With his song Der vergessene Krieg, RAPutation winner Cossu showed how the Foundation uses innovative instruments to share political information with educationally disadvantaged young people.

The program also featured alumni from abroad. Denis McDonough, the White House Chief of Staff, and Bai Yansong, presenter at China’s biggest TV station, talked about their time as fellows at the Robert Bosch Stiftung in video messages. French ambassadors Maurice Gourdault-Montagne and Karl Dedecius explained how the Foundation also encourages international understanding in Europe.

The anniversary celebration was reminiscent of the historical date on which the Robert Bosch Stiftung was founded 50 years ago. On June 26, 1964, the Bosch family transferred their shares in the company, some 83 percent of the capital stock of Robert Bosch GmbH, to a charitable organization that five years later was named the Robert Bosch Stiftung.

Congratulations
