Education, Society, and Culture

The program area Education, Society, and Culture addresses the social challenge of demographic change and its impact on the family, funds initiatives to improve schools and teaching quality, develops new concepts in the focus area "Education in Early Childhood" and initiatives to support the successful integration of immigrants, especially children and young people. Fostering civic involvement and developing new civic education strategies is another area of activity. Support of the arts and culture focuses on the Chamisso Prize for German authors with a non-German native language, a film prize for co-productions by young German and Eastern European filmmakers and introducing children and youth to culture.

Family and Demographic Change

Demographic change is one of the key challenges facing Germany in our time. Starting from the importance of the family the foundation develops concepts for mastering demographic change.

Education in Early Childhood

Starting in 2003, all German states passed education and orientation plans that serve to make preschool childcare facilities an integral part of the education system. The foundation supports the implementation of these plans by promoting the quality and standing of the professions in this field and supporting the reform of training and continuing education for daycare professionals.

Promoting Talent

Germany needs ideas - and the talent to develop and realize those ideas.
One of the Robert Bosch Stiftung’s long-term goals has been the promotion of prospective talent across social classes. “Talent im Land - Grants for Gifted High School Students from Immigrant Families in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria,” “grips gewinnt,” and “Jugend debattiert - Youth Debating Competition” are some of the ways in which the foundation provides support for students with various talents and high levels of dedication.

Fostering Creativity
Creativity is the key to flexibility, competent communication and problem solving capabilities. People who have had opportunity to develop confidence in their creativity, are more successful in finding their way in an increasingly complex society. The foundation supports measures designed to foster creativity as essential components of education processes.

School and Work
Unemployment, lack of vocational training perspectives and the high number of young people leaving school or training without qualifications are a burden on the development of German society. We aim to support young people in their career orientation and ease the transition from school into working life.

Civic Involvement

The foundation aims to promote new concepts for the innovation of the welfare state in Germany and foster the awareness that a democratic and cooperative society can flourish only if citizens assume responsibility for themselves and others in their communities.

Arts and Culture

The projects supported by the Robert Bosch Stiftung highlight the contributions people from different cultural and language backgrounds make to contemporary German literature. In particular, the foundation aims to interest young people from different backgrounds in literature and language and promote cooperation in the arts between Germany and the countries of Central, Eastern and Southeast Europe.

Civic Education
Reinforcing democratic ideals is an ongoing task, and one whose importance must be demonstrated to each new generation. In light of the current discussion regarding an increased feeling of disenchantment with politics that can be seen throughout Germany, the Robert Bosch Stiftung has set up a focus area on “civic education.” In this area, strategies will be developed and projects will be supported whose primary goal is to help young people to identify with the ethics and values of our society, and to act according to democratic principles.
