Health and Humanitarian Aid

Film portrait of the program area
"Perspectives in Health", "Age and Demography" and "Public Health and Social Affairs in Central and Eastern Europe" are themes for which the program area runs its own programs and supports partners engaged in developing, testing and implementing sustainable solutions.

The foundation does not grant humanitarian aid directly to people in need.

Perspectives in Health
The German health sector is undergoing a profound transformation. The process is driven both by demographic change and the associated economic challenges, and by advances in medicine, care and technology as well as the related rising qualification needs. We support the training of employees in the health and nursing professions as well as new approaches in health care. Rising life expectancy and the associated diseases and nursing needs are further focus areas.

Age and Demography
Since 2002, the focus area "Age and Demography" has been devoted to initiatives that address the opportunities and challenges of aging and life in old age. Without neglecting the negative aspects, our activities in this field focus on preparing for and mastering old age and providing the support that requires, so as to show that old age can be associated with energy and innovation. Our activities aim to create more and better opportunities for the elderly to lead active and successful lives.

Public Health and Social Affairs in Eastern Europe
The political transformation in Eastern Europe and the social difficulties it entails motivated the foundation to focus on the promotion of health and humanitarian aid in Eastern Europe. A key aim of the foundation is to improve the qualifications of young people in a range of professions and provide better training for professionals in health care and nursing. Applications and support can be granted only in cooperation with German partners. Projects primarily providing humanitarian aid or devoted to the procurement of capital goods do not qualify for support. Support can also not be granted in specific cases of need.
