Robert Bosch Fellowships at EDAM’s Cyber Policy Program

With a rapid increase in internet access and smartphone ownership, Turkey experiences a significant shift in citizens’ communication. Today, more than half of the population uses the internet and social media to communicate. This raises the question how aspiring nations like Turkey handle topics such as internet freedom, online citizenship, cyber security and data confidentiality.

In order to address this question, the Centre for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies (EDAM) is launching a cyber policy program. Within this frame, the Robert Bosch Stiftung is supporting a fellowship program that enables young academics and researchers to enhance their expertise on cyber policy and to establish connections between the Turkish academic community and the European institutions.

Over the next three years, EDAM and the Robert Bosch Stiftung choose one fellow each year who spends the first six months of the fellowship at a renowned European think tank such as the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Centre of Excellence in Tallinn, Estonia. For the second half, they will apply their expertise to the development of the Cyber Policy Program at EDAM in Istanbul and publish the results of their research. The fellows will be an important link to the international scholarly community as leading Turkey-based cyber experts. In addition, their work is a valuable contribution to the provision of up-to-date information on the international cyber policy debate to the interested public in Turkey.
