Foundation for German-Russian Youth Exchange

The Robert Bosch Stiftung has been working to promote cooperation and exchange between Germany and the Russian Federation since the early 1990s. We focus especially on committed civil society initiatives and exchange between young Germans and Russians.

For this reason, the Robert Bosch Stiftung has helped to establish the Foundation for German-Russian Youth Exchange (Stiftung Deutsch-Russischer Jugendaustausch) based in Hamburg, which started operations in 2006. This was the first venture of this kind in the form of a private-public partnership in Germany and underscores the importance the foundation attaches to exchange between Germany and Russia. The private partners are the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, while the public partners are the German government (represented by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth) and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

The agreement on youth policy between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Russian Federation forms the legal basis of this foundation. The agreement aims to increase and intensify German-Russian youth and student exchange activities. It was signed by the respective ministers for youth affairs in the presence of both heads of state during the German-Russian government consultations at Schloss Gottorf on December 21, 2004. The Robert Bosch Stiftung and Petersburg Dialog played significant roles as private partners in drafting the agreement.
