Aktion Demenz e.V.

Aktion Demenz e.V.

The "Aktion Demenz e.V." association was founded in 2006 as a result of the Robert Bosch Stiftung’s "Together for a Better Life with Dementia" initiative workshop, and today is one of the most important players in Germany when it comes to "Civil Society and Dementia."

The association has the stated goal of improving the living conditions of people with dementia, primarily through dialog within the realm of civil society and by lifting the taboos surrounding dementia. It advocates that people with dementia need to be viewed as fellow citizens and that civil society needs to be committed to their welfare. Professor Reimer Gronemeyer, renowned sociologist and researcher on aging at Gießen University, is the association’s first chairman. Dr. Gabriele Kreutzner and Peter Wißmann from Demenz Support Stuttgart are deputy chairpersons.

The association organizes a wide variety of events and seminars throughout Germany, and works closely with other organizations and initiatives. Furthermore, the association also carries out the "People with Dementia in the Community" program on our behalf.

"How we interact with people suffering from dementia says a lot about our society’s true values."
Professor Reimer Gronemeyer, first chairman of the Aktion Demenz e.V. association
"Improving dementia patients’ health care situation is a common task for which everyone needs to assume responsibility within their area of activity."
Ulla Schmidt, former German Federal Minister of Health
