Building Literary Bridges

2010 International Translator’s Forum

The Robert Bosch Stiftung, the Goethe Institute, and the Literary Colloquium Berlin are hosting the second annual International Forum for Translators of German Literature in Berlin and Leipzig from March 14 to 21, 2010. The workshop is geared toward professional translators of German literature.

The 2010 International Translator’s Forum combines the “International Translator’s Workshop” and the “Summer Academy” initiatives with the Goethe Institute’s programs into one special event: during the week-long forum, up to 60 selected translators will have the opportunity to learn about current developments in contemporary German literature and to network with authors, publishers, critics, and colleagues from other countries. The International Translator’s Forum has two main focal points. On the one hand, the forum is centered around a number of workshops held in conjunction with the Literary Colloquium Berlin on a variety of topics (migration, contemporary poetry, rich and poor in German literature, country and city, the emerging publishing scene). On the other hand, the visit to the Leipzig Book Fair is also an important part of the event. Due to its communicative environment and the sheer number of literary functions being held in one location, the book fair is the perfect place to gather information and make new contacts. Talks held by critics, editors, and agents complete the event. In addition, the participants can apply for fellowships at select European writers’ and translators’ centers offered by the Robert Bosch Stiftung.

Deadline for applications: November 30, 2009
