Youth Ambassadors to Japan
Through the establishment of the program Youth Ambassadors to Japan, the Robert Bosch Stiftung would like to enable young people from Germany to gain insights into Japanese culture and everyday life, as well as - moving beyond the program - to motivate them to develop a long term interest in the east Asian country.
Ten students aged between 15 and 18 are selected to go on a two-week trip to Japan. There, the students experience a comprehensive visitation program and get to know various aspects of both modern and traditional Japanese life. The program is primarily held in the Greater Tokyo area. In addition, the German students visit important places of cultural interest outside Tokyo. They spend a few days living with host families, and, in doing so, experience firsthand what everyday life is like in a Japanese family. Attending a Japanese school for a few days allows the young Germans to gain an insight into the lives of their Japanese peers.
During a two-day seminar in Berlin, the youth ambassadors prepare intensively for their stay in Japan. After returning to Germany, the students are expected to give lectures or presentations to their fellow students and teachers at their schools, or to other interested audiences, reporting on their experiences during their visit to Japan.
Partner of the Robert Bosch Stiftung for the program’s implementation is the German Youth For Understanding Committee e.V.
Due to the triple catastrophe in Japan in March of this year, the program Youth Ambassadors to Japan will not be held in 2011.
Information about the next program will be posted on this site in due time.
