The City of Young Scientists and Scholars
One of the aims shared by the Körber Foundation, Robert Bosch Stiftung and Deutsche Telekom Foundation is to inspire interest in science and research among children and young people. And it is for this reason that, for the first time, they are launching a joint prize: The City of Young Scientists and Scholars. This prize will be awarded to cities and towns that are not only exemplary in promoting cooperation between schools and research facilities, but also want to intensify their activities in this field.
If young people are given the opportunity to work like scientists and scholars, both teaching and learning change fundamentally. Children and young people learn to formulate their own scientific and research questions, work on real-life problems, consider relevant methodologies and select suitable research techniques, reflect on their work processes and present their results - and constantly confront new challenges in doing so.
School children und students who are keen to learn need teachers who understand their role as counselors and coaches within the learning process. The three Foundations aim to continue supporting teachers in this task by organizing network meetings, workshops and conferences. The City of Young Scientists and Scholars will therefore be a new platform - for experienced project organizers and newcomers alike.
