Hans-Walz-Stiftung

As stipulated by Robert Bosch, the foundation has been dedicated to the study of naturopathy and homeopathy for many years. This research is financed with the income of the separate trust assets of the Hans-Walz-Stiftung and by the Robert Bosch Stiftung.

The quality and credibility of scientific studies are of crucial importance in the current debate about the effectiveness of complementary medicine and alternative therapies. In April 2006, the foundation conducted an international workshop in Stuttgart on study methods in complementary medicine. The event focused on determining suitable study methods on the efficacy of treatment methods in complementary medicine that are recognized by conventional medicine and complementary medicine alike.

In October 2003, the Institute for the History of Medicine (Institut der Geschichte der Medizin der Robert Bosch Stiftung) began awarding the Hans-Walz-Förderpreis, a prize for research work on the history of homeopathy. The prize, which carries a purse of 1,000 euros, went to Dr. Michael Dean of New York. In 2005, the prize was awarded to Dr. Jens Busche, and in 2007 to Dr. med. Birgit Lochbrunner.

Hans Walz (1883 - 1974) was a close colleague of Robert Bosch and became his successor. One of his lifelong interests was the history of homeopathy.
