„Girls’ Campus“ – Girls and technology: Robert Bosch School Girls Academy starts second round
Stuttgart, April 9, 2008 – The aim of “Girls’ Campus” is to interest school girls in science and technology and increase the appeal of careers in these fields. For the second time, Robert Bosch Stiftung and Robert Bosch GmbH have launched their joint academy project, aimed at female upper secondary school students in the Stuttgart region. The deadline for applicants is May 9, 2008.
Robot research and mechatronics, solar technology and acoustic research are among the focus themes during the five weekends spread across the school year. Independently conducted experiments are very important, while lectures and guided tours supplement the program. Self-confidence and presentation techniques are also trained.
Scientists and engineers lead the seminars together with experienced teachers. The courses are held at Hochschule Esslingen (Göppingen site), the Fraunhofer Institut für Produktionstechnik und Automatisierung (Stuttgart Vaihingen), Forschungszentrum Robert Bosch GmbH (Gerlingen-Schillerhöhe) and the premises of the company Würth Solar (Schwäbisch Hall).
The program is aimed at Grade 9/10 (G9) and 8/9 (G8) schoolgirls in upper secondary schools in the Stuttgart region. Each school makes its own selection and forwards two applications. A jury will select 30 girls from all applicants for the Seminar Year 2008/09.
The new “Girls’ Campus” will open on July 5, 2008 at Robert Bosch Stiftung. Education Minister Helmut Rau and Managing Board Directors Dr. Ingrid Hamm (Robert Bosch Stiftung) and Dr. Wolfgang Malchow (Robert Bosch GmbH) will welcome the participants. The seminars begin on September 13.
