Four runner-up prizes of endowed with 10,000 euros each went to Montessori-Oberschule Potsdam, Carl-von-Linné-Schule Berlin, Helene-Lange-Schule Wiesbaden and Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium Marbach. Under the motto „Es geht auch anders“ (Things can be Better), Robert Bosch Stiftung and Heidehof Stiftung in cooperation with the magazine stern and television broadcaster ZDF had invited applications for the German School Award for the second time. Ten of the 170 applying schools were nominated for the award.

Federal Education Minister Dr. Annette Schavan said: „The German School Award is impressive testimony to the commitment of teachers, pupils and parents. The schools honored show how much scope those responsible have to improve schools and how they can use it to the benefit of all. The German School Award is a big incentive for improving the quality of our schools. The award supports the schools receiving this distinction in making school life even more attractive – far beyond teaching quality. I thank Robert Bosch Stiftung and its partner, Heidehof Stiftung, as well as the media partners stern and ZDF for their commitment, which makes an important contribution to the development of our schools in Germany.“

„Robert Bosch Comprehensive School rose from the very bottom right to the top in the space of 15 years. It is an impressive and inspiring example of the capacity for innovation of German schools and our country as a whole,“ said Dr. Ingrid Hamm, Member of the Robert Bosch Stiftung Management Board. Although the school with its 1300 pupils was quite large, everybody here felt: „I make a difference.“ The independent jury found that the prize winning comprehensive school: had overcome a serious crisis by exemplary management, democratic leadership and continuous quality control.

The initiators of the award aim to honor exemplary pedagogic performance and set standards for the development of schools and education in Germany. Alongside student performance, the six criteria of the award include coping with diversity, instruction quality, responsibility, the school atmosphere and the school as an institution that learns. All award winners join the Academy of the German School Award. The next application round will begin on
23 February 2008.
