ESOF 2006 in Munich
Approximately 2,100 scientists, journalists, political decision-makers, and science managers presented and discussed new trends and ground-breaking findings in European science at a conference in Munich from July 15 to 19, 2006. The event was part of a series that began with ESOF 2004.
The Robert Bosch Stiftung cooperated with the Donors' Association for German Science (Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft) to bring this event to Germany. As its co-initiator, the foundation not only donated over € 450,000 to ESOF 2006, but also helped shape its program in several organizing committees. During the conference, the foundation led two science sessions and ran an information booth to showcase its work. As in 2004, the foundation also awarded travel grants for young science journalists to visit the Munich conference.
ESOF 2006 was organized by the foundation together with the seventh "Wissenschaftssommer" in Munich. Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD), an institution run jointly by leading German science organizations, organized both events. The steering committee was chaired by Wolfgang Heckl, director of the Deutsches Museum in Munich and Professor of Nanotechnology at the University of Munich.
