Research Trips for Journalists to Southeastern Europe
In 2006, the foundation organized for the first time a tour to Serbia, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina for representatives of German regional print media. Two more trips for German journalists to Southeastern Europe took place in 2007 and 2008. In 2009, the foundation invited internationally renowned journalists and authors to a trip to Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia. Most of the participants were crucial in shaping the public and political discourse about the Balkans in the 1990s and beyond.
During the trips journalists have the opportunity to talk with relevant decision-makers from politics, the media, civil society, science and business. The aim of the trips is to give journalists insight into social and economic developments in the Western Balkans at a decisive time for the political future of this region. The research tours are designed to help improve the currency and depth of reporting about the Balkans, international and European Balkans policies, and the question of the future of Southeastern European countries in the European Union.
