Klaus Mehnert European Institute

"Understanding Europe" is the goal of a one-year postgraduate European Studies course that is organized and taught by the Klaus Mehnert European Institute (EIKM) in Kaliningrad. It is currently the only German-language European Studies program in Russia and geared towards graduates from all university degree programs in Europe and elsewhere. The course qualifies graduates to work in the field of Russian-European cooperation.
The EIKM was founded in 2005 on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the city of Kaliningrad (formerly Königsberg) as a cooperative venture between the Institute of Political Science at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen and the Kaliningrad State Technical University. The EIKM is supported by funding from the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the German Academic Exchange Service.
A cooperation with the Bergische Universität Wuppertal (Germany) enables EIKM students, after completion of their first semester in Kaliningrad, to supplement their program in Wuppertal in the Master's program “European Studies“. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Russian and a German diploma for the degree of Master of Arts (M.A.).
The best graduates from each year receive the Willy Brandt Award of the Socialist Group (PSE) in the European Parliament and complete a one-month internship in Brussels and Strasbourg.
Application deadline for winter term 2012/2013 is June 30, 2012. The term in Kaliningrad starts in September 19, 2012.
Furthermore the EIKM offers a summer term 2012. The program addresses graduates from all university degree programs in Europe and elsewhere who would like to deepen their knowledge concerning European Policies. As proof of qualification, graduates receive a certificate and 26 ECTS. Application deadline for the summer program 2012 is February 29, 2012.
To support students financially the EIKM permanently is looking for companies, foundation and individual persons who act as sponsor.
