Der andere nebenan – An Anthology from Southeastern Europe

Twenty-one authors from various Balkan countries were invited to write essays for an anthology about their relationship to "the others", the causes of the conflict, and paths to greater mutual understanding in the Balkans. The people of the former Yugoslavia are only just starting to come to terms with their past and to reflect on the guilt and responsibilities of the different ethnic groups in the region. The anthology is intended to overcome ethnic boundaries and move forward the process of reconciliation.

The book has been published in eight editions and countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, and Germany. It is published by Richard Schwartz. The German edition was published by the S. Fischer Verlag in Frankfurt/Main on September 21, 2007.

In recognition of the resulting literature and to publicize the discussion about the status quo in the Balkans, the anthology was also presented through special events, readings, and debates both in German-speaking areas and in the Balkans.

From October 26 and November 8, 2007 some of the contributing authors went on a tour of many German-language literary establishments and presented the book at a total of eight events.
